Composite (White) Fillings
Tooth-colored fillings are the safest and most esthetic material used to fill cavities. Composite fillings can be completed in one visit. Once the decay is removed, the tooth is filled with the composite material that hardens immediately after placement with an LED curing light.
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)
Silver diamine fluoride, also known as SDF, is a localized cavity-arresting medicament that can be used as a conservative caries management approach. It can be applied in one minute. The silver works as an antibacterial agent, killing the bacteria. The Fluoride works to remineralize and prevent cavities from progressing or spreading to other teeth.
Hall Technique with a Stainless Steel Crown
The Hall technique is a minimally invasive restorative option with a stainless-steel crown for primary teeth with moderate to severe caries. Typically, silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is recommended to be applied first to slow the caries progression (see SDF). Unlike other conventional caries treatments, the decay is not removed surgically prior to treatment. This eliminates the need for local anesthetic ("numbing") or tooth preparation (“drilling") which can be a “life saver” for highly anxious children unable to tolerate dental treatment. It works by suffocating the bacteria inside the cavity and sealing off new bacteria and food which would propagate the caries process. Please ask us for more information.
ICON Resin Infiltration
ICON Resin Infiltration is a minimally invasive restorative treatment for post-orthodontic white spot lesions caused by a demineralization process from long-term plaque retention OR for congenital hypocalcified enamel lesions (white or brown spots on front teeth). Please ask us for more information.
Dental Crowns
Crowns are used to restore damaged or decayed teeth in children. Crowns completely cover the remaining tooth structure after it has been treated. They can be made of many different materials, including stainless steel, composite materials, polycarbonate, resin, porcelain, and zirconia. We offer several different options, allowing us to choose what is best for each child and each tooth.
Bonding
Cosmetic bonding is the process of filling or restoring teeth with a tooth-colored material (composite) to maintain a natural appearance. This can be used to close spaces due to small or misshapen front teeth.
Whitening
Whitening, also known as bleaching, is the procedure used to brighten teeth. We offer the purchase of at home over the counter professional options or you can schedule an appointment for the fabrication of a custom tray and purchase of professional strength gel. We will gladly speak to you about what is right for you and your child.
Extractions
A tooth that cannot be saved with restorative materials may need to be removed. Before removing the tooth, the area will be numbed with local anesthesia. The tooth is then loosened using a special dental instrument known as an elevator. After the tooth is loosened from the socket, it is removed. Some teeth may be recommended for extraction by an Oral Surgeon.
Pulp Treatment (Pulpotomy/Pulpectomy/Baby Root Canal)
If the inner chamber of the tooth, known as the dental pulp, is invaded by the cavity, it will gradually deteriorate and become infected. The root canal process involves removing the infected pulp, cleaning out the chamber and roots (if needed), and filling the chamber and/or canals with a material that will help restore the tooth until it is time for it to naturally exfoliate (fall out on its own).
